How is Optimal Exercise different?

The first thing you’ll notice is that we are on a tree-lined street, with street-parking by the front door, in small studio.   We are not in a retail area, and we’re not inside a supermarket-sized showroom.

You may see our previous client finishing, and our next client starting, and maybe another client and trainer at the same time as you, but there won’t be dozens of people around.

Once you’re inside the studio, the real difference will be in the attention paid to your workout.

What are the workouts like?

Most people starting out will do a five minute warm-up on the cardio machines, 20 minutes of strength training, and five minutes of assisted stretching to finish.

Once you’re comfortable with the cardio machines, you’re welcome to come in up to a half-hour prior to your appointment time to do the cardio portion and spend more of your time with the trainer on the strength and stretching.

The strength training portion is done progressively:  first you master how to do each exercise, then we begin to make each more challenging -over time, not necessarily in the first workout.   If an exercise doesn’t agree with your joints, we find an alternative.

We finish the workout with assisted stretching, with an emphasis on the hamstrings.

Of course, the exact exercises, how hard you do them, and how quickly you progress depend on you.  A young athlete’s workout may be more vigorous than their mom’s or dad’s or grandparents’-but all of their workouts will be appropriate to their starting condition, goals, and motivation.

That is what we mean by “personal” training.

How does the program work?

All training is done by appointment.  Instead of paying for “membership” (whether or not you actually use it), you pay for appointments, which you schedule as you buy them.  Having an appointment to exercise is a big help in starting and maintaining a regular program.

Sessions are in 30 minute increments, and are generally available from 6 AM through 8 PM during the week and on a limited basis on Saturdays.

Most clients prefer one-to-one sessions, i.e. one trainer working with one client.  We can also accommodate shared or small group sessions (two people can share a 30 minute session, and up to four can share one hour).

You can buy one session to sample a workout, and then you either continue to buy and schedule one at a time, or you move up to a package of ten sessions.

Please call for current rates and availability.
